An iterative study of an urban environment through the use of memory and impression. Beginning with a 5 x 5 grid of 4" x 2.5" rectangles and a series of lines, the first step was to infill the white space with images and textures that represented Washington, D.C. The collage would be cut into 25 individual cards. 3 of the 25 cards would as inspiration for 3 small models and a larger 8" x 10" model.
“architecture is not merely national but clearly has local ties ... that it is rooted in”

The site’s topography was based on the lines of the cards. With a digital model, I created the geometry and laser cut the inclined planes.

After completing the larger model, the last step was to photograph the model using various lighting to capture the textures, composition of spaces and outlook.
